Ben Harlan is a classically trained musician, having studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where he won the Gareth Neame Scholarship for Composition. He first worked with film as an on-screen performer in Roman Polanski’s The Pianist. He later collaborated with film composer Henning Lohner, leading to commissions for the BBC and Netflix.
Beyond film, he has composed music for the meditation app Sleep Worlds, featuring the voice of Hayley Atwell. With his ensemble, ZRI, he has written for and performed alongside the Västerås Symphony Orchestra and the Britten Sinfonia.
Through his work in music education, he met Kate Winslet — a connection that ultimately led to his debut feature-length film score to Goodbye June.
